PE and Sports Premium
What is PE and Sports Premium Funding?
Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6. This funding is used to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of Physical Education, physical activity and sport that we offer at Bishop Chavasse Primary School
Aims
At Bishop Chavasse, we have an ongoing ambition to deliver both a high quality and a varied amount of PE and School sports for every child. We aim to develop confident, independent learners in a safe, competitive environment, ensuring all pupils have a secure understanding of PE and sport through enjoyment, teamwork and participation. In order to give every child, every chance to be active and informed of the importance of living a healthy life, we deliver 2 hours per week of PE throughout the school at present.
How does the funding improve PE and Sport at our school?
We are building capacity and capability within our school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit current pupils and those joining the school in future years, this includes continuing professional development for the delivery of PE lessons and active play times. Our PE coordinator is working alongside staff to further improve the quality of PE in our school and ensure increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport. This will improve the effectiveness of PE teaching and embed physical activity across our school, whilst simultaneously extending current opportunities.
We are raising the profile of PE and sport across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement through increased participation in competitive and non-competitive sporting events, e.g. cross country, cricket. Clubs outside of the school hours are provided to promote healthy lifestyles and help to engage children to lead healthy, active lives.
Additional equipment has been purchased to enhance the overall provision of PE and sport in our school. As well as the completion of work to further extend and improve Early Years Outdoor activity areas.
We are beginning to introduce 'Play Leaders' who will receive ongoing training and mentoring from the PE coordinator to increase confidence, knowledge and skills and help peer support and engage children who will benefit from increased activity during lunch times. Pupil ‘Sports Leaders’ also benefit from mentoring others and developing their planning, organisational and leadership skills.
We will continue to monitor our provision to ensure we are meeting the five key indicators that the Sports Premium is used for:
- The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
- The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- Increased participation in competitive sport.
