Weekly homework will include times tables, reading and spelling practice. We will also provide you with one English and one maths homework per week. Homework books will go out on a Friday and are due in on Thursday.

Times tables: Please practice times tables daily on Times Tables Rockstars. By the end of year 2, your child will have learnt their 2s, 5s and 10s. We will continue to consolidate this learning as well as introduce 3s, 4s and 8s. Times tables underpin KS2 maths learning, so developing a fluency in this will support their maths learning throughout KS2 and beyond.

Reading: Please ensure your child reads at least 5 times a week. We will send home reading records so we can keep track of what they have read and you can let us know how they are getting on. Your child is welcome to change their book in school when they have finished reading it. Please encourage and remind them to do this; we will also remind them in school. The children have been invited to bring in a story/chapter book from home which they can keep in school for silent reading time. We are keen to develop a love of reading and reading for pleasure, and will be listening to your children read in school so we know how they are progressing.

Spellings: Below is the list of year 2 spellings that your children will have learnt last year. These are available if you feel your child needs a refresher. Below we have also provided the year 3 and 4 spellings list. Please can you and your child select 5-10 spellings each week and practice them in your homework book. There are lots of creative ways your child can practice their spellings, and we are looking forward to seeing their hard work. Encourage them to put their words in sentence, this helps them know how to use the word in their writing, not just how to spell it.
